Disclaimer: This is an independent review and we have had no commercial relations to Chu And Co or its affiliates. Having tried thousands of cafes globally, we hope to bring you the most objective take on pet-friendly cafes and restaurants in Singapore through our adventures with our furry friends.

We love a good bakery that serves up delicious pastries, and this next one is no stranger to many. Chu And Co is situated on 15 Lichfield Road around the Serangoon Gardens area with croissants, breakfast sandwiches, bread rolls, grilled cheeses, and even gelato to end your meal on a sweet note. Although the bakery offers takeaway options only, they used to have seating and a dine-in area for customers to enjoy their bakes in store. In early 2020, residents around the area felt that it was hectic with too many customers and therefore the co-founders had to opt for take-out only thereafter. However, the owners still welcome dogs to come visit the store to pick up bakes with their humans!

The Space

Leaning towards a commercial bakery concept with a see-through glass display of its wonderful bakes, the walk-in experience gives you a sense that the bakery at the back and the bakes on display come through a seamless process from dough to bread. The off-white colours from floor to ceiling help to keep a contrast on the browns, greens, and yellows of the baked goods on deck.

Grilled cheeses with coffee are our favourite options here, but there is also a wide selection of croissants, bread rolls, scones, banana loaves, and many more. There are also coffee and non-coffee options. We opted for an Iced Latte ($6) and an Iced Mocha ($6.5) that were both fragrant and smooth with a rich roasted coffee aroma. For non-coffee options, try their Valrhona Chocolate (Hot $5.5/Iced $6.5) or Turmeric & Chai Latte (Hot $5).

The Experience

The overall adventure to the back alleys of Serangoon Gardens really surprise us with this cosy bakery with exquisite pastries, sandwiches, and coffee. The staff were very friendly and there were dog bowls for water to accommodate our pit-stop to grab some brunch. This is definitely one of our favourite dog-friendly coffee spots!
